Merchant Navy Admission Procedure

No doubt, choosing a career is a life changing decision. Earlier, the process use to be somewhat easy, but nowadays the synopsis has completely changed. From countless options; choosing a particular  one has become crucial. However, choosing the desired one is all about matching your goals with your concerns, budgets and skills.

One of the career options, which is less notable, but still holds many features. That’s none other than the Merchant Navy. It is basically a commercial fleet, which is in charge of transportation of goods and passengers from one harbor to another. The fleet involves hovercrafts, reefer ships, warships, passenger ships, bulk carriers, cruise liners and sailboats etc. and is categorized into different zones. They are named as the Deck Zone, Engine Zone, Rating Zone and the Technician Zone.

When it comes to entering into the Merchant Navy, then also you can   consume assorted methods. The first option comes when a candidate completes his 10th or Matriculation level study. The courses which are available afterwards are NCV (near coastal voyage), GP rating, Direct Entry Scheme, DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science), ETO and Commercial Diving.

Secondly, comes the option after 12th courses, which allows a candidate to become a Deck Officer, Engineering Officer or an Operations Manager. The courses are B.E. Ship Building/ Repair, B.E. Marine Electrical & Elect, B.E. Naval Architecture, B.E. Harbor & Ocean Engineering, BBM Shipping, B.E. Marine Engineering, DNS, B.E. Petroleum Engineering, B.E. Marine Information Technology,  B.Sc. Nautical Science, and   B.E. Mechanical Engineering.

Last but not the least, candidates who have pursued a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant fields like Management/ Hospitality/ Petroleum Engineering or Biotechnology can go for courses which are mentioned below:
